Usually don’t post personal family moments but I had to share this. As I disconnect from work and home school with my 4 year old sleeping on me I opened the mail to find a nice surprise….Present! Connect! by Tom Guggino. As we navigate through new territory it’s prime time to hone up on skills you have and if you don’t normally present to an audience why not learn? Tom Guggino thank you can’t wait to read it!
I had the pleasure of reading Tom’s book, “Present! Connect!” and interviewing him about it on Counter Culture, my weekly program on PBS39. I’ve known Tom for almost forty years, first as a comedian and writer, and later as a video producer for major corporations. In reading the book, I was delighted to find references to his early days doing standup and improvisation. He was quite good at it. What he emphasizes in the book is how the techniques he used to win over comedy club audiences, are precisely the same for winning over any audience even in the corporate world. Tom has always been hilarious, a great comedy writer, and performer, but he’s also a great coach for anyone tasked with making a presentation. If you can’t get Tom in person, get his book, it will layout everything you need to do to become a successful speaker. “Present! Connect!” shows you the way, makes you think, and even makes you laugh along the way.
I had the honor and privilege to be coached by Tom. He is the real deal and this book definitely captures his coaching “wisdom”. It provides both technical and practical aspects of presenting including preparation, contemplation and delivery, along with guidance on content and body language. The chapter on presentation versus conversation is insightful and valuable to any presenter and learning how to find your style and discover your comfort zone is priceless. It also provides guidance for presenting online. Overall, this book is a quick, easy and fun read. There are many practical examples provided but most important, it allows me access to Tom’s wisdom and experience as a presenter and a coach. Thank you for authoring this book Tom.
Reading Tom Guggino’s book produces an amazing paradigm shift for most people who think they understand how to give a presentation. Whether presenting for sales, marketing, education, professional work or to convince friends and colleagues to pay attention to an issue of importance, this book should be your guide.
Regardless of your experience or the type of presentation you may deliver, Present! Connect! is packed with practical tips to help you connect
with your audience and deliver engaging messages. With his “Presentation Process” as a backdrop, Tom leverages his experience as a stand-up comic and professional coach to describe how to deliver high-impact presentations. Present! Connect! is a must-read for anyone wanting to learn how to better connect with their audience, create a compelling message, become cognizant of body language and its impact, or project a strong presentation voice.

Tom has brought a tremendous amount of value to our organization through various workshops and one-on-one training sessions. I have to admit that in the beginning I was skeptical of business consultants, Tom changed my perception.

Tom is an excellent speaking coach and a masterful facilitator for business strategies. I have really enjoyed working with him.
Tom’s instruction was very instrumental in helping me develop a better approach to public speaking and employee management. My posture and voice were weak in some areas and he pointed out how to exude more confidence and power when speaking. He also gives good advice on how to manage employees effectively and positively. I am sure that our company will utilize him again in the future since his methods are clear and they work!
Tom helped me prepare an elevator pitch for a business plan competition. He was able to effectively summarize our highly technical project into a sixty-second overview for a broad audience. Tom also provided some speaking techniques that gave me the confidence to deliver a winning pitch and presentation during the competition. I highly recommend him!
