I had the pleasure of reading Tom’s book, “Present! Connect!” and interviewing him about it on Counter Culture, my weekly program on PBS39. I’ve known Tom for almost forty years, first as a comedian and writer, and later as a video producer for major corporations. In reading the book, I was delighted to find references to his early days doing standup and improvisation. He was quite good at it. What he emphasizes in the book is how the techniques he used to win over comedy club audiences, are precisely the same for winning over any audience even in the corporate world. Tom has always been hilarious, a great comedy writer, and performer, but he’s also a great coach for anyone tasked with making a presentation. If you can’t get Tom in person, get his book, it will layout everything you need to do to become a successful speaker. “Present! I had the honor and privilege to be coached by Tom. He is the real deal and this book definitely captures his coaching “wisdom”. It provides both technical and practical aspects of presenting including preparation, contemplation and delivery, along with guidance on content and body language. The chapter on presentation versus conversation is insightful and valuable to any presenter and learning how to find your style and discover your comfort zone is priceless. It also provides guidance for presenting online. Overall, this book is a quick, easy and fun read. There are many practical examples provided but most important, it allows me access to Tom’s wisdom and experience as a presenter and a coach. Thank you for authoring this book Tom.
